Saturday, September 14th is the 2nd stage of Batalha da Leste - Edition of Minas next to the Corinthians Arena, in São Paulo. The event is a celebration of the one year anniversary of this special edition where the stage belongs to them and the audience belongs to everyone (to paraphrase our partners from Slam das Gurias ). From 3pm onwards there are DJs, battles between MCs and, to top it all off, a Malibbre pocket show. The entire event is produced and presented by women.
The Batalha da Leste is the second oldest and most traditional battle of rhymes in the East Zone of Sampa. The organizer, Karen Gombio, explains that “the mines that attended the battles in the East Zone of SP agreed that there was a huge embezzlement of mines in the scene, in all positions, and that it was possible to count on one hand the ones involved. Talking to them, the Batalha da Leste organization noticed that the machismo in the scene ended up making the mines feel attracted and not participating for fear of what they would hear.”
In June 2018, the organization of the event invited Karen and other MC's to create the first battle of the mines in the capital's blood modality. They made the Edition of Minas monthly, every last Saturday of the month, and are in charge of all functions and participation: presenters, mcs, video maker, dj and whoever they can take to add. “This attitude was taken to encourage the participation of mines in the battle scene, which, unfortunately, is still sexist and mostly male, even today”, emphasizes Karen.
