“Taking care of myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, an act of political struggle” . audre lorde
2019 was a pretty heavy year, right?
We started watching a fascist occupy the highest position in the country, surrounded by his court jesters committed to defending the interests of big businessmen and militiamen. From there, it was downhill. Rates of violence and intolerance have exploded. And we were there, resisting together. Always together.
Last year's violence rates are alarming. There are more than 200 nations in this big world of my Goddess and Brazil occupies the 5th place in the ranking of countries that kill the most women. THAT'S RIGHT, BRAZIL IS THE 5th COUNTRY THAT KILLS THE MOST WOMEN IN THE WHOLE PLANET EARTH! And ⅔ of them are black. Yes, we have serious problems of gender, race and class, but little is said about the feminization of poverty. Black, indigenous, lesbian, foreign women abandoned to their fate, needing to flee and survive the genocidal state that kills their children.
Also in 2019 we reached the highest rate of rape in the last 10 years: 180 per day. 54% were under 13 years old and 73% of the abusers are family members or acquaintances. Not only that, we are also the country that kills the most trans people. First place in prejudice, intolerance and inequality.
2019 was a pretty intense year, right?
How much happened in those 359 days, huh? Not only in the world or in Brazil, but in your life. Have you ever stopped to think about everything you've faced this year? Not only the daily struggles, but mainly the internal battles? Being a woman is not easy. Being you is not easy. Sometimes we lack time. It cannot. How are we going to take care of other people if we are not well psychologically?
Yes, you can and should. We don't always win. It's okay to ask permission from the fight at any time to organize what you're feeling, to welcome your pain. And your joy too, it's not just militancy and sadness that we live. Enjoying life is also part of the self-care process. Take a rest.
Enjoy the end of the year to relax. We even thought of proposing an exercise: put all the struggles and victories of 2019 on paper, but no, rest. Next year we will outline an overview of 2020, discuss with our friends actions and directions for what is to come. For now, just rest. We need to be whole for what's to come. The fight never stops.

Ps: We are in the process of self-care and internal reorganization, also called vacations, and on January 13th we are back.
