The pre-sale of the first Brazilian book that has fatphobia as its main theme has begun. ' Fight like a fat woman: fatphobia, resistance and activism' , by the feminist writer and philosopher, Malu Jimenez , proposes to unveil the fat universe in contemporary times, denouncing how these bodies are institutionally conceived and how these fat women self-perceive, accept or resist fatphobia . For those who don't know, Malu is a PEITA partner and was the one who helped us remodel our size grid, which goes from XS to G6. That's why there's a great discount coupon for anyone who buys her book.
“When a body is not within the standard, that is, a thin body, seen as beautiful and healthy, it is stigmatized, considered ugly, bad, abnormal, sick, weak, sad and, therefore, socially excluded. This discrimination is known as gordophobia, this stigma is structural and cultural, transmitted in many different spaces and social contexts”, explains Malu Jimenez.
The book is an adaptation of the doctoral thesis in Contemporary Culture Studies at UFMT. In addition to bringing an activist and powerful text, it shows through photographs and artistic collages of larger naked fat women located in another conception of what it is to be beautiful and fat in our society.

The project aims to give fat people a voice in the anti-fatphobia fight, to be respected and made visible in the guarantee of basic rights, such as the right to sit comfortably in a chair, use public transport, buy clothes, find medical devices compatible with body size, etc. .
