On March 8, 2018, Peita turns 1 year old. And what a fucking year. 14 controversial sayings took to the streets, carried on their chests by people who believe in the message that the protest brand transmits. As a way of thanking the engagement of girls, boys and boys, on March 7th the first mini-doc 'What is fighting like a girl?' and, on the 8th, the Tumblr 'Lute Como Uma Garota' and a series of hand-made paintings, which bring miniatures of dresses worn by suffragettes and workers from the beginning of the 20th century, hand carved (there is also a mini-breast). On the 11th, the celebration party is a soirée organized with his partner, the band Mulamba.
“Peita was born in the streets. Even though the idea of having a brand of t-shirts with controversial sayings in all-type already existed, it was the Women's March that motivated me to create a tool of resistance”, explains designer Karina Gallon. “Feminist organizations fought for more than 60 years for the date to be instituted. Not to win flowers, it is a day of resistance, of making our claims for equality between gender, race, sexual option”, he adds.
What's it like to fight like a girl?

In that one year, Peita gained recognition above expectations. Every day people get in touch to vent, tell how they felt using Peita at a work meeting, family gathering or walking the streets. “People really open their hearts. We received reports of rape and other types of physical, verbal and moral violence. Those who use Peita trust us and know they can count on us. I want to hug each one and say: 'you are not alone'”, says Gallon. From this amount of love, pain and outburst, the idea of the documentary came up.
The reports will be captured throughout 2018 and a monthly excerpt will be released in mini-doc format. Afro-entrepreneur Aline Castro Farias is the first to take part. She is the creator of the Fuá Accessories brand, which uses recyclable materials with Afro-print fabrics inspired by black personalities, and the creator of “Dia de Rainha”, a project that offers, in addition to a day with activities and shows, bags and necessaires with products of beauty and hygiene for street women. In the teaser of her interview, an emotional account of what it is like to be a woman, black and raising a teenage daughter alone.
The videos are directed by Karina Gallon and Leticiah Futata, who is also responsible for photography; the person responsible for the interview is psychologist Lari Tomass; still photography by Duda Dalzoto and soundtrack by Toro Creative Audio.
As the documentary has a limited number of reports, Peita also launches a Tumblr on March 8 with the outbursts it receives via email or inbox on social networks.
Feminists are born from clay
“Rise as we go up”. This was the motto that the “National Association of Colored Women's Associations” chose for itself in 1895 and which governs Peita's partnerships. After Mulamba and Festival Sonora, now it's the turn of designer Marilzete Basso do Nascimento. She is 'making' clothes inspired by the suffragettes and working women of the early 20th century using clay. “I follow the same process as a seamstress: I make patterns for dresses and T-shirts, cut out the dough one by one and 'sew'. Model the breast, belly and hips as if there was someone inside, to give the sensation of movement'”, she explains.
The process, astonishingly, takes more than 50 hours, including preparing the dough, modeling, firing the clay, enamelling, further firing and assembling the 20cmx20cm frames. “The dress collection is exclusive, limited and numbered. No piece is the same as another: it has more plumpness, less breasts, more hips. We'll have the 'Fight Like A Girl breasts' in stock”, warns Karina.
The profile “As Mina na História”, famous on social media for publicizing the achievements and struggles of women, is a partner in this endeavor. Ceramic sculptures and t-shirts will be drawn on both profiles on March 8th.
