PEITA É CURADORA DE SÉRIE DE VÍDEOS DO PROJETO DESCASCA

PEITA IS THE CURATOR OF THE DESCASCA PROJECT VIDEO SERIES

How many layers are you made of? How many shells have you layered over the years to protect yourself and face the big world outside? When we turn our eyes inwards we realize how unique and multiple we are. We have our subjectivities, complexities, experiences and ancestry.

Without intending to reveal the essence of the human being or offer a meaning to being a woman, Descasca penetrates the envelope of her guests and brings well-kept feelings. PEITA was invited by producers Fabielle Iatski and Nathalia Tsiflidis to curate two videos from the series and we chose two close and dear sisters.

The composer, producer, presenter, journalist and creator of Solyra, Amanda Lyra is already known here at PEITA . Since March 2019, he has been writing his concerns and provocations on #putablog.

We spoke with screenwriter and producer Nathalia, who told us a little more about Descasca .

( • ) How did the peeling come about?

Peel came from a need to talk about intimate matters that we didn't see being addressed at that time, at least not close to us. As much as we saw a lot of content that dealt with everyday life, it seemed that everything ignored things that, in our view, were very latent: loneliness, anxiety and the need to look like someone strong all the time. We decided to look for some light in people we admire, some sign that we weren't alone. Finding and building these references from women comes, in turn, from the need to see ourselves represented in the bodies that speak, and also to build new possible imaginaries for us and for them – that can serve as inspiring muses for an infinity of possibilities. things that don't come down to your physical appearance. There was also this thing about creating female references for men too. With one on the creative team, we saw with the publications of the first episodes that many men were also present at the other end of Descasca, watching her.

( • ) It takes a lot of tact with people, even more so when we want to show something intimate. How was the process of meeting the interviewees you didn't know?

Art and sensibility operate as universal languages. Art, as a product of a society that alters and is altered by it, is a possible place for us to reinvent our identities without the obligation of structuralist and oppressive social roles. Sensitivity also because we need to donate and show ourselves so that we could connect in a real and solid way with the interviewees. We know we got it right because these interviewees we didn't know are now our friends.

( • ) What do people have more difficulty within the shell: opening up and talking, being filmed or both?

To be filmed. Even though it takes a lot of trust, when we open up and talk about ourselves, we immediately know who is listening to us. We choose who has the privilege of listening to us, of having access to our intimate universe. Once filmed, we no longer have control over how we are seen, we don't know by whom we will be seen. It takes a lot of courage to show yourself without knowing to whom.

( • ) What is the purpose of Peel? What did you want to show with it when you created it?

Peel exists because talking alone is not enough. We realize that we need references, sharing experiences so that we can analyze our own, in a healthier and lighter way. Being in contact with these women and seeing myself in their speeches is a relief, because it's finally possible to breathe and say that it's not just me who's crazy. It is necessary to show that, in addition to social places, we are crossed by some subjective dilemmas common to being a woman, even if we suffer other types of violence due to race, sexuality or social class. That none of us are sex machines, no matter how sexualized our bodies are. That we all suffer from loneliness, and that it's a process to make something good and constructive out of it. That the number of virtual engagements does not reflect in inner wealth. And that, mainly, by listening to each other, we can create a place where we don't suffer so much. And that men can also listen to us and identify with our speeches, which until a few years ago was unheard of.
