Playlist especial Dia da Mulher Negra Latino Americana e Caribenha por Janine Mathias

Special Latin American and Caribbean Black Women's Day Playlist by Janine Mathias

Who is Janine Mathias?
Gemini singer and songwriter, passionate about the mission of being a voice.

Since when do you compose?
Since I was a little girl, I remember liking writing poetry since I was 10, 11 years old, but I didn't have the dimension that they were compositions. If I had saved everything, I would already have content to launch at least 4 books. At 18 I understood that some of the things I wrote could be music. The first time I wrote with a beat it was for a chorus and then the songs started to come with melody. I believe that I receive these compositions spiritually.

I know you have folders and folders of lyrics, how many songs have you written?
Registered, 40 songs.

How do you see this boom of women in the music market?
I see that we learn to stand up as a movement and we automatically value ourselves and that makes the difference in the market.

How do you fight as a girl within rap and samba?
Singing.

What can we expect from Janine Mathias in the coming months? Got a new album?
Shows and emotions, lol. I opened the way with "Pérola Negra", music by Val Andrade, I won the honor of singing a hymn from a beautiful woman. I also just did a pre-release show for the album with Criolo, I released the song "Bom Dia", a single from the album 'Dendê' and now I'm getting ready to release the clip featuring Rincon Sapiência, idealized by Maria Spector, an artist which has a very beautiful work aimed at women, Caetana Filmes. Then there's the release of the album we've been working on for over a year, all done with crowdfunding and support from fans and friends.

How was the musical selection for 'Dendê' made?
Everything was done remotely, me in Curitiba, he in São Paulo. An intense choice due to the musical range we had together, so one of the first things was to pass all the compositions I had to Eduardo Brechó, many of them had a melodic line, but most were sent only the voice. I made 2 specific trips to São Paulo for us to fine-tune our repertoire and see how to generate the album, all together with a great artist that I have as a friend and sister, Tássia Reis, who I barely have words to describe how much I love her for supporting me and being the person who introduced me to Eduardo and even gave me the honor of being the first to record one of her compositions. Everything that came after was very much his direction, not to be a "segmented" album of RAP or Samba, but a work that demonstrated the voice of Janine Mathias, what she communicates and within that draw through the compositions and re-recordings that he chose and it is pure representation of my life story. He took me to Renato Parmi to see the studio and proposed that they produce the record together.

Eduardo Brechó and Renato Parmi brought together elements of electronic music and impeccable arrangements. It was a fundamental and trusting partnership. I received the work by email and, sometimes, by WhatsApp track by track. It was beautiful to feel their union and the arrangement of the musicians who also performed with great mastery, that left a deep impression on me.

The disc name was intuited. I woke up with a voice that told me: it's Dende. I began to seek and understand what this fruit meant in me. An important moment was setting up the crowdfunding campaign with Lucas Cabaña. Generating an album through the support of people was also a way whose depth I only understood later. From beginning to end, everything was done through partnerships, which generated an explicit collectivity in the work.

Leave a message for the sisters, brothers and monas.
The order is not to back down, let us be accomplices in that perfect crime of being who we are.
