Resista como uma araucária.

Resist like an araucaria.

Did you know that araucarias have resisted the actions of men for over 300 million years? After decades of unrestrained, irresponsible exploitation and the complete absence of public inspection, less than 1% of the Araucaria forest has survived in a good state of conservation in Brazil and in the world.

The few remaining natural areas still survive in southern Brazil - Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. Next to the araucaria forests, live the natural fields, another ecosystem associated with the Atlantic Forest that was also violently degraded.

Even so, threats against these plant formations do not cease. The French company Engie seeks to install more than a thousand kilometers of power transmission lines in natural areas of 24 municipalities in Paraná. In a process that is not at all transparent and that does not measure the environmental impacts, it intends to go through areas of fields and forest with araucaria. Including, dozens of specimens of the tree were knocked down in recent days in Campos Largo because of this intention.

We cannot allow the Government of Paraná to support such violence. We need public policies that ensure the protection of what little remains of our forests. And not intentions that profit at the expense of public property!

Today, on National Araucaria Day, we want to invite you to reflect on the dramatic condition of this species and the araucaria forest, the ecosystem it inhabits, accompanied by hundreds of other valuable species that are also very important.
