Anyone who tears up the constitution, points a gun during a demonstration and preaches the dissolution of the Federal Supreme Court and Congress is not a patriot. Patriots are the people who fight for housing, jobs, food on the table, social justice, decent conditions for all people residing in the country.
The extreme-right-conservative-fascist appropriates national symbols in order to declare war against those who disagree with their totalitarian ideas. Treats as enemies of the homeland anyone who dares to question them. It is a Machiavellian strategy of division. Looking at the period of the military dictatorship, it is possible to see the atrocities that genocides are capable of in the name of their personal interests disguised as 'the good of the nation'.
The resumption of the Brazilian flag is more than necessary , it is urgent! We can't spend another 4 years hating green and yellow.
We know that the colors were a reference to the invaders from the House of Bragança (green), by Dom Pedro I, from Portugal, and from the House of Habsburg (yellow), from Maria Leopoldina, from Austria. But not anymore. NO MORE! The blue globe came to replace the coat of arms of decadent monarchs. The phrase “order and progress” inspired sambas like “Positivismo”, by Noel Rosa and Orestes Barbosa, who, with the poetic license their genius allowed, included love in the song.
The history of our country is not pretty. Since 1500, we don't have much to be proud of and, precisely because of that, we have a lot to fight for. Breaking with sexist, racist, capitalist and heteronormative structures of exploitation is not easy, but it is a duty.
The flag of Brazil is not that of the petty and violent minority that currently governs the country. It represents every person who lives here, who was born here, who considers himself Brazilian. It is a symbol of the plurality of our people, the diversity of our culture, beliefs and knowledge. It is part of our history of struggles and reconstruction.
