Giving voice to women and offering tools that provide dialogue and clash - since the fight against racism, sexism, LGBTphobia, xenophobia, among other oppressions is daily - is the goal of PEITA. In July, the protest brand launches the phrase “Rime como uma Menina” , where part of the production is already being used to support and encourage projects such as “ Slam das Gurias CWB ” and Rima Dela , in São Paulo.

Both initiatives, like 98% of the brand-protest partnerships, are led by women to publicize the work of other women. Slam is a spoken poetry competition that not only reinvents the way of publishing poems, but also occupies public spaces. In the case of Slam das Gurias CWB , the event takes place every first Sunday of the month at the UFPR Rectory building and was born on March 8, 2019 during the actions of International Women's Day. Organizers Jaqueline Mancebo and Gabriela Carneiro felt that many women were ashamed to participate in open battles due to the machismo present in the scene and decided to create one just for the sisters. “At Slam das Gurias, the stage belongs to them, but the audience belongs to everyone”, exemplifies Gabi.

The Rima Delas project is a space where women can speak openly about their experiences within the culture, their work and the difficulties they face on a daily basis. The channel has interviews, video clips and cyphers organized with new and old names from the scene like Mel Duarte , Sara Donato , Bianca Hoffmann , Bia Doxum andBrisa Flow . “Our idea was always to mix. Being able to show girls who were already in the running rapping for a long time and even then were not so well accepted by the public, precisely because hip hop is a movement completely formed by male chauvinists. And bringing in new names, introducing new girls, who are starting out, are very good at rhyming, singing, freestyle, but there is no space to show their work”, explains Becca Vilaça.

The creator of Soul di Rua , the communication collective that gave life to Rima Dela reinforces that “rap is completely sexist, but the feminist struggle within it is taking on a greater proportion every day. There is still that guy who doesn't accept a woman being the lead artist, doesn't accept opening a show for women, in production doesn't like to receive orders from a woman leading. They still don't understand that all this suffering of ours, in several factors, is not for nothing. We have been growing, we are getting stronger until we can take what is rightfully ours”.
The “Rime like a girl” chest is now available on the site.
For the organizer of Slam das Gurias , Gabriela, it is very important that women occupy all spaces, only we can speak for ourselves. “Rhyming like a girl is dealing with a lot of stares and a lot of judgement. Rhyming like a girl is resisting what comes to diminish you. Because it always comes. A woman occupying a speaking position is uncomfortable. There we remain, create roots and resist. To rhyme like a girl is to resist”.

Sara Donato
Art produced by women is one of the activities that PEITA encourages and joins forces with. After all, there is no fight alone. “Culture is super political. She is the one who keeps our minds sane and makes us attentive to what is happening around us. Mainly the rap, hip hop and slam sisters who are always putting their finger on the wound, opening up veiled racism, pointing out trash boys and questioning the discourse of privileged spaces. Feminism is about disturbing, subverting, demanding and conquering rights”, comments Karina Gallon, president of PEITA .
In both projects, PEITA offers T-shirts for project actions. In the case of Rima Delas, a photo session was held with rhymers of the two cyphers dressed in the phrase to publicize the work they have been doing. For the Slam das Gurias, t-shirts are offered, gifts to be distributed and drawn, in addition to prizes for the finalists. And there's Puta Slam das Gurias in November. Soon more information.

CYPHER RIMA HER
Soul Di Rua produced and directed two cyphers with female rap and hip hop composers who have been on the scene for a few years and others who are emerging and adding to the movement. So one pulls the other as it goes up.

ABOUT CHEST
Peita was born on March 8, 2017 with the phrase "Fight like a girl" invading the streets of Curitiba in the demonstrations of International Women's Day - March 8M. The purpose of the protest brand is to offer coping tools for women to fight against daily oppression. Peita fulfills the mission of bringing controversial sayings from the context of demonstrations to ordinary days, generating discussion of the feminist movement in a different approach. The proposal is to cause discomfort. It is to make oppressors feel uncomfortable and to produce dialogue on still thorny issues, through a non-verbal communication channel at first. Each person who wears a CHEST reframes it in their struggle context.
The layout created by Curitiba designer Karina Gallon transmits the message in a simple and direct way, using a common and accessible product. Today PEITA has 30 controversial statements, of which 70% are partnerships with movements, institutions and social projects, women who are active and/or companies committed to combating oppression. In these cases, the profit or part of the production is donated to fund causes.
